We are being urged by the environment secretary to buy British fruit and vegetables in order to assist the economy's move out of recession. It makes sense that we should be consuming native foods instead of importing them from abroad. The governement are doing more to help farmers, and supermarkets should also be encouraged to supply homegrown goods to consumers. At Wovenhill, we know the importance of supporting local businesses, and we have a loyal group of local customers as well as using local suppliers. There are certain obvious exceptions, for example we can't grow exotic fruit and vegetables here in the UK, but there are so many opportunities for the country to eat healthily whilst boosting the local and national economy.
